At Morley Newlands Academy we place a high priority on music education and aim to provide a broad musical culture within school. We offer children an opportunity to learn about, experience through listening and composition and perform different genres of music within the curriculum and through extracurricular activities. Through this, they develop a knowledge and understanding of the interrelated dimensions of music, which are built upon year by year.
We follow the Kapow music scheme; a high quality scheme that engages children by closely linking to the topics we study within our creative curriculum, stimulating a deeper curiosity into the subject. The curriculum allows children to express themselves, be creative and develop their talent as a musician, increasing their self-confidence and sense of achievement.
We expose the children to different genres and experiences of music throughout their time at Morley Newlands Academy. This includes ukulele lessons, live theatre productions, visiting bands and choirs and the opportunity to perform through being part of our Singing Squad or through class assemblies.
Rock Steady
At Morley Newlands Academy, we have partnered with Rock Steady to provide children with the opportunity to learn instruments and play in a band. Parents can sign their children up via the Rock Steady website and fund this directly. Alongside learning an instrument, the Rock Steady experience helps children to work in a group and boosts their self-esteem. Throughout a series of weekly sessions, the children complete challenges and gain a qualification. They participate in an end of year performance for their families and pupils, showcasing the skills they have developed throughout the year.
